Haywood Innovative eighth graders recently embarked on an exciting college exploration trip to Georgia Tech and Auburn University, experiencing firsthand the opportunities, traditions, and possibilities that await them beyond middle school.
Students participated in guided campus tours at both universities, exploring academic spaces, learning about college programs, and imagining themselves as future college students. At Auburn University, the experience reached another level during an engaging Engineering Day, where students put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test. They designed, built, and tested prototypes, toured engineering buildings, and participated in a hands-on scavenger hunt that challenged them to unlock the “word of engineering” while discovering the many possibilities within the field.
Beyond the academic experiences, students had the opportunity to experience life in a college town, visit iconic landmarks, explore campus traditions, and purchase university merchandise to commemorate their adventures. These moments helped bring college life to life in a way that extends far beyond a classroom lesson.
At Haywood Innovative, we believe that the future begins with exploration. Experiences like this allow students to connect their learning to real-world opportunities, discover new interests, and envision what is possible through higher education. Our eighth graders returned with lasting memories, new perspectives, and a greater understanding of the exciting pathways that lie ahead.
Explore. Imagine. Innovate. The future is theirs to build!
